Hedge Mustard or  Khubkala belongs to the family of Brassicaceae. In India this plant generally found in Rajasthan, Uttar pradesh, kashmir, punjab and haryana. Hedge Mustard plant blooms in July and August. This plant is used for treating cough, asthma, loss of voice, fever, chest congestion etc. This plant is also known as singer plant because of its use in treating loss in voice. Hedge Mustard have a bitter flavour and they are used in salads or cooked as a vegetable. they are rich in protein, vitamin c, fiber and mineral.  It is  found on roadside and wasteland, and as a weed of arable land. Khubkala seeds contain glycosides which act on contractile force of the cardiac muscles and are mostly used in the treatment of cardiac failure.

BENEFITS OF KHUBKALA 

Khubkala is an Ayurvedic medicine which has a special contribution in getting rid of various diseases.

• Khubkala in typhoid treatment: It is specially used in diseases like Motijhara, intermittent fever or typhoid. Take out the seeds of 4 -5 dry grapes and wrap them well, then bake it on a hot tawa and feed it daily to the patient, it gets relief. If the fever is not going for a long time or is coming back again and again, then this remedy is also beneficial for that.

• In the treatment of smallpox: Smallpox or measles diseases are also treated with great skill. After cooking the seeds of Khubkala in water for a long time, making a decoction is given to the patient. And by scattering its seeds on the patient’s bed, the germs of this disease can be saved from spreading and the patient also gets relief.

• In the treatment of asthma: In asthma, cough or common fever, it is also beneficial by coughing or coughing. It removes the problem of phlegm and gives relief to the patient. Taking 2-5 grams of fenugreek powder mixed with water with dry grapes, makoh, fennel and unnab and after cooking it for a long time, it provides relief in cold and phlegm.

• Treatment of Kapha with Khubkala: It removes all the problems arising due to Kapha.

• To remove weakness of Khubkala: Boil 2 grams quantity of Khubkala in milk and drink, it ends weakness.

• Khubkala in the treatment of piles: It also has a special contribution in the treatment of piles. If 5 grams powder of Khubkala is taken twice a day with water or milk for three weeks, then the pain of this disease is relieved.

• In the treatment of cholera: Khubkala is also used for the treatment of stomach related diseases. If a person gets cholera, then consuming it with rose water gives benefit. And in case of diarrhea, its seeds are consumed along with chicory leaves.

• In the physical development of children: Its use in diseases like drought or malnutrition: – Sometimes children become victims of diseases like drought or dryness, it is also called malnutrition. In such a situation, the physical development of children stops and the body becomes very weak and dry. Khubkala is a good medicine to get rid of this disease.

• To reduce swelling: Khubkala is also used in the form of a paste. If there is swelling or pain on any part of the body, then the paste of its seeds is applied.

• Nutritional Elements of Khubkala: Not only the seeds of Khubkala but also the leaves of this medicine are used in the treatment of various diseases. Proteins, various vitamins, minerals (such as calcium and phosphorus etc.), fiber and carbohydrates are also found in its leaves. Its leaves are also used as a salad.
